Twenty five years ago, HBXL’s managing director, Adrian Wild, set up a building company during which time he constructed in excess of 300 extensions and around 80 new builds.
The company expanded from one manager and a handful of contractors to a team of six managers and over 40 subcontractors, with a turnover of £4-5 million per annum.
Adrian often worked late nights and weekends to turn round quotes for clients and knew that accuracy was key, as Adrian says, “Profit margins could be thin so you had to get it right!”
Having devised a software package for himself, in 1996 Adrian could see a huge demand for his easy to use estimating software and founded HBXL. The first version of the software was released after four years of development and was an immediate success.
Today, EstimatorXpress, as the software became known, is the only estimating software with easy to understand on-screen building drawings into which you enter your dimensions to price the job.
HBXL is the market leader supplying software to the building industry with over 7000 users – and now it’s not just estimating software.
Adrian had plenty of experience dealing with lots of people on site and the issue of extensive health and safety paperwork. Another concern was the size of his architect fees!
So two further key products have been released; PlansXpress which enables the
builder to produce professional working drawings; and Health & Safety Xpert to help
the builder fulfil his health and safety obligations.
For the second year running HBXL is the sponsor of the ‘Heavenly Builder’ category in the Master Builder of the Year awards. We are also on the receiving end of awards and have been a winner two years in a row in the ITShowcase awards. We’re also members of the BMF.
One more factor that makes HBXL the success it is today – is its customer support. The company has an extraordinarily well-oiled machine when it comes to answering users’ technical questions and generally ensuring that users are happy with their products.
Customers continue to receive, updates and upgrades, online trouble-shooting, useful tips, opportunities to attend workshops, receive one-to-one training – whatever they need to get the very most out of these ground-breaking products.
